Sad Day

Today I said goodbye to my cat, Oliver.  I found him as a stray kitten 17 years ago.  He was the first pet I had on my own, and has been a constant through all the changes of becoming an adult.  (I still don't think I'm finished).  I'm so sad that he's gone, but he'll always have a really special place in my heart.

I'm on Etsy!

I finally have my Etsy shop going.  I want it to mainly be quilts, but I think I'll have some of the little bags and wallets as well.  Here's the link (I think)

I'm official, yay!

Trying new things

So, I'm going to start an Etsy shop.  And I've also made a couple of zippered pouches and little wallets, so I thought I'd try to sell some of those, too.  And a friend of mine is having a mini-craft-show at her neighborhood clubhouse, and asked me to bring some things.

I'm thinking the little wallets and pouches will be easy, and I can whip up a 'bunch' and sell them.  Ha!

Zippers are from the devil.  I like zippers on my bags, but for cryin' out loud, they are an enormous pain in the rear-end to use!

Last night, it took me 3 hours to do this:

I mean, they're cute and all, but I figure I'll make about 20 cents an hour if someone actually buys any.  I'm going to make some more, and hopefully I'll become a little more efficient!

I have now have 2 completed quilts to put on Etsy.  I want to have 3 before I actually start it up, but here's what I have so far.

This one I made from a Verna layer cake.  I really like it.  Hate to sell it.

And here's the Whimsy one all finished!  I like it, too, but I'm not attached to it.

One of my holders is a bit shorter than the other, but they still did a great job!

Boutique Quilt

A quilt top coming together....

This quilt is being made from a layer cake that I was terribly disappointed in when I got it in the mail.  It is the Boutique collection from Moda, and I ordered it online with a few others.  At first, I had just put all the squares together, but after cutting it up, and getting it put back together, it's starting to grow on me.

I'm thinking of doing an allover meander for the quilting.

And then, I'm going to try to work up the nerve to put in on Etsy.  I have a shop set up, but there's nothing in it, because I'm chicken.  After I get my quilting machine out of jail, I have this one and a couple of others to quilt, and then I will hopefully feel confident enough to sell some of them!

Look What I Can Do

Fact # 2 About Me:

I only recently began to quilt.  Or sew at all, for that matter.  I tried a while ago, but my oldest, now 8, was a toddler at the time, and it was just too difficult.

So, the sewing machine went in the attic, and then to an attic in another house, and then I caught the bug again.  I took a few classes at my most wonderful Local Quilt Shop.  And now I'm a full-on fabric addict.  And now I can fix my own pajama pants.

I noticed a hole in the seam, and it took me all of 5 seconds to fix them up like new.  I wouldn't have been able to do that a year ago.

See that hole?

They're now whole.

And I did it all by myself!!!

First Post

Since this is going to be a quilty blog, I thought I'd start with what I'm currently working on.

I decided that I wanted to do a traditional quilt, and hand piece and hand quilt the whole thing.  I actually had a dream about hexagons, and have been seeing them everywhere, so a Grandmother's Flower Garden it is.  I found a great tutorial at Bee in my Bonnet.  Of course, I have to figure out how in the heck to put the link on here.

Fact #1 about me:

I am technologically challenged, and have no idea how to do a blog.  We'll see how this goes.

Hexie Paper Piecing Tutorial

Ha!  I did it!

So here's my progress so far:

Little hexies all in a row.

I am using these, instead of cutting my own.

The beginnings of flowers for the garden.

Warning:  Be careful if you decide to start these little guys.  They are indeed addictive!!!!

I am also working on this puppy:

A finished quilt top.  The line is from Michael Miller.  Whimsy, I think?  BUT....

Currently my progress looks like this...

Because my sewing machine is doing this.  Not pretty.  Very frustrating.  She is at All Brands, hopefully getting all fixed up.
