Bad Chicken Mama

Went out a little late to lock up the chickens, and this is what I found....

For those of you who can't tell, that's 12 chickens crammed all up in 2 nest boxes, because someone (that would be me) forgot to put the roost boards back after rinsing them off this afternoon.

I apologized, really I did, but I was still getting lots of stink-eye...

Probably the flash going off in their faces didn't make them happy either.

Aaaaahhhh....that's better.....

Eagle and Smudge are the first ones up

Poor girls, I promise I'll do better tomorrow, and not forget about you whilst watching the final episodes of Oprah on DVR.  Bad chicken mama.

Quilt A Long Fabrics

All of these fabrics came from my stash.  And there are 10 instead of 9 fabrics, because I can't make up my mind...

My first quilt-a-long.

Photobucket Photobucket
I found this on Clover and Violet blog today, and I'm gonna do it!!

Yay!

Ok, the button doesn't work, I'll figure it out eventually.

I took it off Etsy, and put it on my bed.

I just really really like this one. And now it's mine.  I mean, what's the point of all this quilting, if I don't keep any of them?  I just have to sell enough to fund my fabric habit, and it'll all be good.

Story of a Quilt

So, I moved to the Richmond area 15 years ago,(gasp! I'm old...) and started working at a veterinary hospital.  People often brought in their old sheets, towels, blankets, etc for the animals to use.  So one day, a huge quilt came in the donate pile, and I just couldn't stand the thought of it getting peed and pooed on, and ripped to shreds in a matter of weeks, so I kinda took it. Yes, bad me taking a blankie from the doggies....

Seen here being enjoyed by toddlers in 2005.

So, it's been everywhere....on the bed, the couch, the floor, picnics, road trips, and finally it ended up at a civil war reenactment.  The hubs is a reenactor on occasion, and he decided it was perfect.  At 90" x 100" it was actually big enough to cover him and keep him warm.  So, it spent a few years at war.  Then it started to wear. This was before I even knew how to use a sewing machine, so my mom made a valiant effort to save it and patch it all up.

It was ok for a while, and then the fabric just got too worn, and it has started to disintegrate.  It's been left in the garage in a box for a couple of years, and when I recently pulled it out, I discovered that the rodents had started making nests, and whew!  did it smell!!

So, here is our poor quilt today...

So now, I'm going to make another valiant effort to save it again.  The back is not in as bad shape, and has been patched.

The front, not so much.  So, I am in the process of making a new top made out of civil war reproduction fabrics, ( I think they're drab and ugly, but The Hubs likes them, and says they're "manly" ).  hee hee.  Then I'm going to quilt the new top right onto the whole quilt, and put a new binding on.  Will this even work?  I do not know.

The new top is in the works, and I hope that we can make this 'family quilt' last 15 more years!

Bluesy Greens Patchwork Quilt

Yay!  Another finish, now available on my Etsy shop.  Just a random patchwork squares quilt, but I like the way it turned out.

Pretty Pinwheels

I really really love this one.  It's gonna be hard to give it up, but it will be listed on my Etsy shop by tomorrow.  It was made with Tanya Whelan's Ava Rose collection.

Score!

Let me start by saying I never get the good finds at the thrift store.  I'm just not one of those people.  But my luck changed this week!

I got this quilt rack for 8 bucks.  A couple of the rungs were loose, which The Hubs fixed in no time.  Then as I was looking at it, I was thinking it may be plastic.  Oh well, I still like it, I can always paint it right?  So then I ask The Hubs his opinion on whether or not it's plastic, and he just says, "it's not plastic".
"Well, how do you know?"  I ask
"Look at the bottom"

SCORE!!!

Holy cow, I sold a quilt!

I had my first Etsy quilt sale!  So excited and so nervous.  I hope they're not disappointed.  So this is the one now on its way to its new home.  Hope it is well loved. Bye Blush quilt.....

Pastel Patchwork

I am finding that I'm really partial to 'patchwork' style quilts.  A bunch of squares, with simple quilting.  Scrappy, or all from one fabric line....doesn't matter.  They just look so comfy and cozy, and like you wouldn't be afraid to get them dirty.

This springy colored one is on my Etsy shop
